Lodash was built for a JavaScript ecosystem that no longer exists in the same form — no native Array.prototype.flat, no optional chaining, no Promise. Much of its surface area now duplicates what’s built into the language. helpers4 assumes a modern runtime, covers the same general-purpose ground (array, object, string, number, function) with a fully tree-shakable, strictly-typed API, and adds what lodash never had: dates, URLs, semver, observables, typed promise guards.

Lodash’s collection-chaining API (_(arr).map(...).filter(...).value()) and its more exhaustive “deep get with default” (_.get(obj, path, defaultValue)) semantics have no direct helpers4 equivalent yet — outside those two idioms, helpers4’s general-purpose categories cover comparable ground to lodash’s core.

Lodash is the maximalist, battle-tested option for legacy compatibility and sheer function coverage, plus idioms (chaining, _.get with defaults) helpers4 doesn’t replicate. helpers4 is a modern (ES2024+), fully tree-shakable alternative with comparable coverage (312 functions vs lodash’s ~300), plus the domain-specific ground (dates, URLs, semver, observables, promise guards) that lodash — built for a pre-ES2015 world — never aimed to cover.
